12 whole years of SARAH'S SOAPS... where has the time gone!
It feels like just yesterday I was starting to make soap in my parents kitchen. A hobby that quickly grew in to an addiction, and very quickly after that grew in to so much more.
Blending different essential oils, experimenting with different ingredients, all of which I still do + enjoy to this day. It is the entire reason why I still release a yearly exclusive birthday soap, one with fresh new ingredients and unique blends. It brings me back to those earlier days.
These birthday soaps are a labour of love, fuelled by years of experimenting, inspiration + love. They give me a chance to create
art! Not that my craft does not feel like that daily, but there is something so special about creating a limited, one time release. Cue:
ROSEMARY + FIG LEAF bar soap
So... why ROSEMARY + FIG LEAF you may ask?
These are two of the plants that hold vivid memories from my childhood + adolescence. Much of my family grew figs, and fig season was such a special time to share with one another. Rich fruit in shades of reds + purples. When I was visiting family in Italy many years ago the beautiful fig trees towered over houses - it was incredible for us to see when our tree was so small. We would stop on the road side to collect as many as our hands could hold.
Always close to our fig tree was a big beautiful bush of rosemary.
Strong, fragrant + prominent. During this year's fig season, it hit me. There, standing right in front of my eyes was
this year's birthday soap.
THE PROCESS: fig leaf infusion

I began by harvesting + dehydrating fresh, organic fig leaves from our tree. This tree is as old as I can remember, inheriting it from my uncle's original tree. These beautifully vibrant leaves are then crushed and infused in to water to essentially make a fig leaf tea. It is then strained, and blended in to our classic soap formula.
Two different batters are made for this soap design: one in light green to represent rosemary, the other in a deep purple, figgy hue to represent the fig fruit.
The essential oil blend is fresh, woodsy + invigorating with notes of herbaceous rosemary, sharp fennel, fresh spearmint + with a gentle background note of orange peel. Notes of which we get asked for quite often, so in a sense you all were the inspiration, too!
Thank you for 12 years here at SS
I feel so fortunate to be celebrating 12 years in business, something I most definitely do not take for granted as a small business. I am forever grateful for your constant support, ideas, feedback, reviews, laughs, friendships; all of it.
Here's to another 12 years, and another after that, and after that, and after that.....
